How to Get Whiter Teeth: The Ins and Outs of Laser Teeth Whitening

Laser teeth whitening is a modern method to get whiter teeth that offers many advantages. It's not known as 'power whitening' for nothing.

So how does it work?

First the dentist will put a rubber dam is placed over your teeth to shield the gums. Then he'll,apply the whitening product on your teeth. Next a laser is shone on the teeth which works to stimulate the agent and thus greatly speed up the whitening process. The whole procedure lasts less than an hour.

Other than speed, another great advantage of laser teeth whitening is that you don't need to wear the mouth tray overnight as you do with some other whitening systems. What's more, the laser whitening procedure results in much less tooth sensitivity than other methods.

However for all these advantages there are some caveats and drawbacks.

Firstly, if you have existing dental work such as crowns, veneers, bonding, bridges and fillings, you should not undergo laser whitening. Also if you suffer from sensitive or translucent teeth you should consult with your dentist as to whether laser is suitable for you.

You also need to bear in mind that results vary from case to case. It's wise not to have unrealistic expectations that you'll have a dazzling smile after one treatment. You many well be disappointed. However dentists maintain that laser whitening can help make your teeth up to six shades lighter.

Laser treatment is not for everybody. You'll need to undergo a dental examination before your dentist gives you the go ahead.

The final drawback is the price. Laser whitening procedures are much costlier that other methods. But if you get whiter teeth in a short time, it's surely a price worth paying. Especially when you remember the results can last for up to three years.
